Abstract
Dispersion compensation in fiber optical communication system has become
a topic of great importance and research these days because any presence
of dispersion might lead to pulse spreading which might cause inter
symbolic interference (ISI) which leads to signal degradation. The
demand for data communication is growing rapidly due to the
increasing popularity of the internet and other factors. The research
evaluated and analyzed the performance of dispersion compensation
fiber (DCF) and fiber Bragg grating (FBG), through comparing the eye
diagrams , bit error rate and Q-factor and threshold of these methods
under different scenarios. The research collected information from the
related works that exists on the internet in scientific papers and used
OptiSystem in order to evaluate and simulate the performance of fiber
dispersion compensation techniques. The research concluded that FBG is the
better than DCF which is used in research because it gave the best results in
terms of high Q-factor , very small BER , high eye height and a small
threshold as described so when dispersion compensation is used in
long distance; FBG is preferred to minimize the dispersion and get
strong light signal and high quality without a decrease or increase of
the signal
